本展はアジアの芸術表現として深い伝統を持つ墨絵を中心とした展覧会として始まりましたが、 近隣諸国の墨の作品から交流が拡がり、文化交流が進むにつれ、ジャンル、国を越えて作品が集まり、 現在では、アジア、太平洋地域のみならず、欧州からも多くの作品が出品されています。 ジャンルは絵画、書、映像、立体造形など多岐にわたり、それぞれの作家が他の個性を敬いながら、 最大限に自らの個性を発揮する展覧会です。
This exhibition began as an exhibition focusing on ink painting, which has a deep tradition as an Asian artistic expression. As cultural exchange progressed, works of art from different genres and countries began to gather together. Today, many works are exhibited not only from Asia and the Pacific region, but also from Europe. The genres of the works are diverse, including painting, calligraphy, video, and sculpture, with each artist showing respect for the other’s individuality. This is an exhibition in which visitors can display their own individuality to the maximum extent possible.
今世界は混沌の中にあります。COVIT19などのウイルスが世界を混乱させ、国際紛争が各地で勃発し、人々を苦しめる時代に入ってしまいました。しかしこの国際展「美は国境を越えて2022」には23の国と地域の作品が集まりました。私はArtを愛する者の背中には翼が生えていると思います。この翼は、国境、人種、思想を越えてどこへでも飛んでいけます。そのような翼を持っていると強く信じています。そんな翼を持った人たちが、この国立新美術館に集まりました。紛争の当事国の人たちの作品も含め、協力しあう形で展示されました。このような展覧会が更に拡がって、Artの世界から平和が訪れることを願っています。国際展「美は国境を越えて2022」には、Artで心を繋ぐ人々の希望が溢れています。是非ご高覧下さい。
The world is in chaos. The pandemic has caused a global turmoil, and armed conflicts have erupted in different parts of the world. Quite simply, we are living through very challenging times.
Despite such circumstances, it is quite astounding that the artists from 23 different countries and regions have been participating in our international exhibition “Art Beyond Boundaries 2022”. No boundaries here, as if those artists grew wings on their back and were able to fly to wherever they would want to, free from the concepts of country borders, human races, different schools of thought and what have you.
I truly believe that the artists have invisible wings on their back. Many artists with amazingly beautiful, amazingly strong wings gathered at National Art Center, Tokyo. At this special exhibition, you could see the artists from many corners of the world, including those conflicting countries sharing the exhibition space collaboratively.
I would like to see art exhibitions like this keep rolling in the future and become the seeds to create a better world. We shall never cease to pray for a better world. This exhibition projects the participating artists’ hope for and faith in the power of art. We trust that art can open and connect the hearts of the people in the world. 国際公募展 “美は国境を越えて2022”。英語の名称では"Art Beyond Boundaries 2022"です。私は、この美術展においては、“国境”という意識よりも、むしろ、参加者の年代の幅広さ、８０代から10代以前の作品が揃っていることに感動いたしました。美を作り出す心というものが、全てのもの（国境・年代・性別など）を乗り越えて一堂に集まる、心を一つにすることができるということを、この展覧会は、世界に向けて発信しております。会場入口には展覧会の代表者である小林東雲先生の大きな波の絵が掲げられました。海を越えて世界中の美を求める人たちが、心を一つにする展覧会。是非皆様にご鑑賞賜りたく存じております。
“Bi-wa Kokkyou-wo Koete 2022”, the international art exhibition named “Art Beyond Boundaries 2022” in English, highlights the idea of boundaries. Nevertheless, I have been more impressedwith the fact that the artists are of the ages between pre-teen and the eighties.Our exhibition is proof that the quest to create beauty transcends all, including borders, generations, and gender, and unites everyone so that all can become one. The painting of the enormous wave at the entrance was drawn by our representative, Mr. Tohun Kobayashi. “Art Beyond Boundaries 2022” is an exhibition that brings from beyond the oceans those who desire beauty and unifies. I desire that everyone finds pleasure in these works of art.
“美は国境を越えて2022”には、今年も世界各国から多くの作品が集まり、多くの方々が芸術を楽しんでおります。専門家も注目する新しい潮流を見ることができるのは、私達にとって、大きな喜びです。この展覧会には、さまざまな文化的背景があります。日本の文化に親しんでいただくことで、世界の平和につながることを大いに期待しています。皆さんはとてもよく学び、制作されています。日本の文字や文化を直接知らない海外の方達でも、深く研究していることにとても感心しました。皆さんは、すでにそうした経験を積んでいらっしゃいますが、更にその努力を続けることにより、作品のレベルは上がり、知識は拡がり、世界中の人と親しくなることができます。これこそが、この展覧会の特色です。書道や絵やその他の作品を通して、私たちが築き上げてきた友情が永遠に続くことを祈っています。
At our “Art Beyond Boundaries 2022” this year, we have once again a magnificent collection of art from around the world for people to enjoy. These works reveal novel trends that even experts take notice of, and I am extremely proud to be part of the exposé. A conglomeration of cultures has made this exhibition possible. I hope that all can become familiar with Japanese culture, and that will bring peace to this world. I have seen that every artist has put a significant amount of research and work into the creation of their pieces. I am especially moved by the amount of thorough investigation non-Japanese artists who do not even know the writing or culture of Japan have done. There is no question every one of you has worked relentlessly to reach this stage in your Sumi-e journey, and I hope that you will continue to do so. The quality of your work will become more refined, your knowledge will expand, and you will gain many more peers internationally. This is what makes our exhibition exceptional. I pray that the friendships we develop through these Shodo pieces, paintings, and other compositions will last forever.
“美は国境を越えて2022”。今年も、この展覧会には世界中23の国と地域から作品が集まっています。去年もcovit19によって開催が危ぶまれましたが、素晴らしいことに、今年もまた開催することができました。多くの人はSumi-eは難しいと感じていますが、墨絵の魅力は、その作品の幅が広いことです。この展覧会の作品が23か国から集まったように、地域も幅広いのですが、出品者も老人から子供まで、年齢も幅広いのです。そして、プロから素人まで、Sumi-eは、筆と墨と紙があれば、即座に描けます。描こうと思えばだれでも挑戦できるのです。そのような、質の幅広さや描き手の幅広さがSumi-eにはあります。その幅広さを全て備えた墨絵の展覧会は、恐らくこの展覧会ただ一つです。是非、Sumi-eの魅力を存分に楽しんで頂ければと思います。
This year, “Art Beyond Boundaries 2022” has had the pleasure of bringing together works from 23 countries around the globe. Because Covid19 threatened the opening of last year’s exhibition, we were afraid our show could be canceled this year, but thankfully, we have been able to proceed with the event, and I am very pleased. Many feel that Sumi-e is too difficult, but the magic of Sumi-e lies in the diverseness of the works. This exhibition displays works from 23 countries and consists of pieces created by people from small children to the elderly. All you need for Sumi-e is a brush and ink, and it does not matter if you are a professional or an amateur. Sumi ink and paper gives anyone the ability to create Sumi-e instantly. This diverseness of quality and artist is what Sumi-e is made of, and as far as I know, this is the only exhibition in the world that possesses every one of these qualities. I sincerely hope that everyone will discover the beauty ofSumi-e.
